Deborah Poole, Ph.D.
Professor and Coordinator, ESL Composition
Deborah Poole has served on the faculty at SDSU since 1989, when she received her Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Southern California. Her research interests include language/literacy socialization and the analysis of classroom interaction, especially in public school settings. Her current work focuses on links between co-occurring spoken and written language in classroom activities and the resulting implications for literacy instruction and discourse analysis research. She teaches courses in applied linguistics and TESOL, coordinates the composition program for international, immigrant and bilingual students, and supervises the Looking Glass Neighborhood after-school program.
